Managing Material Categories

Material Categories help to keep your materials organized in the system. Organizing your materials into categories will help to limit your materials into lists for efficency. Material categories can be added, edited, exported, set inactive and deleted.

Navigate to Settings / Components / Component Categories / Materials.




Adding a New Material Category


1. On the Component Categories screen, go to the Materials tab.

2. Select the Green Plus icon.

3. On the Add New Material Category screen, go to Material Category Details.

Note: Required fields are marked with a red asterisk.

    a. Name - This is for the internal organization of materials.

    b. Description - This is a broader description for internal purposes.

4. Click Save.




Editing an Existing Material Category


1. Navigate to Settings / Components / Component Categories / Materials.

2. Find and click on the Category Name that needs to be edited.



3. The existing category and associated details will open.

Note: Before making any changes, the linked materials and assemblies should be reviewed. The linked materials and assemblies will be associated with the changed category. Change are auto saved.

4. Review the Associated Assemblies

5. Go to the Associated Materials tab and review the materials listed. 

Note: If you need to change the associated materials, go to Settings / Components / Materials. If you need to change the assemblies, go to Settings / Components / Assemblies




6. After reviewing materials and assemblies associated with the existing category, go back to Materials Category Details tab. Make any necessary changes to the material category. 

   a. Name - This is for internal organization purposes. 

   b. Description - A broader description can be added if needed for internal purposes.




Exporting a Material Category


1. Navigate to Settings / Components / Component Categories / Materials.

2. Select the category to be Exported.  

3. Click on the Ellipsis on the right.

4. Select Export



5. An export json file will be created.

    a. File Name - A file name template will be created with the category name that is being exported. 

    b. Click Save.

Note: Only the category name is exported and must be export first, any associated materials and associated assemblies need to be exported separately.

       



Filtering the Material Categories List


1. Navigate to Settings / Components / Component Categories / Materials.

2. Click on the Filter icon on the top right. 

3. The Filter Options screen will open.

   a. Name - Filter the category list by typing a keyword to search. 

   b. Include Inactive - Check to include all inactive categories.

Note: Learn how to inactivate and reactivate material categories below in this article.

   c. Clear Unpinned - Clear filters that have not been pinned.

Note: See step 4 below to learn how to pin a filter.

   d. Clear All - Clear all filters pinned and unpinned.

Note: See step 4 for viewing a filtered list. 



4. When a filter is setup through filter options, it will show in this list. 

    a. Pin - Click the pin icon on a filter to pin a filter. This will keep this filer option even if you move off this screen.

Note: Click on the pin icon again to remove the pin.

    b. Unpinned Filter - Keyword search filter.

    c. Click Clear Unpinned or click x on the filter to remove a filter. 

Note: Inactive categories will be in italic. 

   



Setting a Material Category Inactive or Reactivating


1. Navigate to Settings / Components / Component Categories / Materials.

2. Select the category to be marked inactive. 

3. Click on the Ellipsis on the right.

4. Select Set Inactive

Note: Only the category will be inactive, all the associated materials and associated assemblies will remain active. 



5. On the Component Categories list, inactive material categories can be made active again.

Note: To make a material category active again refer to Filtering the Material Category List in this article for viewing inactive categories. 

   a. Include Inactive - This filter needs to be selected to show all inactive categories. 

Note: See filtering the category material list in this article.

   b. Select the inactive category to be reactivated. 

   c. Click on the Ellipsis on the right. 

   d. Select Set Active. 




Deleting a Material Category


1. Navigate to Settings / Components / Component Categories / Materials.

2. Select the category to be Deleted. 

3. Click on the Ellipsis on the right.

4. Select Delete.

Note: When deleting a category, only the category will be deleted, all associated materials and assemblies will remain. Deleted categories will need to be re-added if needed again.
