Tax Groups

Tax Groups are used to group together one or more tax items, such as, state, county, and city taxes into one group. Each customer will be assigned to a single Tax Group during customer creation based on their location. The tax group total will be the combined tax that is visible on a customer's estimate and invoices. For more information on Tax Items, please see Tax Items.

Navigate to Settings / Accounting / Tax Groups.




Creating a New Tax Group


1. Click on the Green Plus icon. 

2. Enter Tax Group Details.

Note: Fields marked with a red asterisk are required fields.

    a. Tax Group Name - The name should identify the group of tax items. The tax group list is sorted alphabetically so consider this in organization for naming convention. 

Note: For more information on tax items, please see Tax Items.

3. Enter Associated Tax Items.

    a. Select the tax item(s) that apply to this tax group. 

 Note: The tax group total will be the combined tax that is visible on a customer's estimate and invoices. 

4. Select Associated Locations.

    a. Select the selling location(s) for this group, that is, your business location(s) for this group. 

Note: Navigate to Settings / My Business / Locations. 

5. Click Save.




Cloning a Tax Group


1. Navigate to Settings / Accounting / Tax Groups.

2. Select the tax group to be cloned. 

3. Click on the Ellipsis on the right. 

4. Select Clone. An exact copy of the tax group will open.



5. Change Tax Group Details. Changes will auto save.  

Note: Fields marked with a red asterisk are required fields.

6. Enter Associated Tax Items.

    a. Select the tax item(s) that apply to this tax group.

7. Select Associated Locations.

    a. Select the selling location(s) for this group, that is, your business location(s) for this group. 

Note: Navigate to Settings / My Business / Locations. 




Filtering and Pinning the Tax Group List


1. Navigate to Settings / Accounting / Tax Groups.

2. Click on the Filter icon on the right.

3. Filter Options will open.

    a. Name - Enter a keyword to filter the list.

    b. Include Inactive - This will show all inactive in the list in italic. 

Note: Learn how to set tax groups to inactive, or reactivate in this article.

    c. Clear Unpinned - This will clear all unpinned filters.

Note: See step 4 below to learn how to pin a filter. 

    d. Clear All - This will clear all filters.

Note: See step 4 below for viewing a filtered list. 



4. When a filter is setup through filter options, it will show in this list.  

    a. Pin - Click the pin icon on a filter to pin a filter. This will keep this filter even if you move off this screen.

Note: Click on the pin icon again to remove the pin.

    b. Unpinned Filter - Keyword search filter.

    c. Click Clear Unpinned or x on the filter to remove a filter.

Note: Inactive codes will be in italic. 




Setting Tax Groups Inactive and Reactivate


1. Navigate to Settings / Accounting / Tax Groups.

2. To set inactive, select the tax group to be marked inactive. 

3. Click on the Ellipsis on the right. 

4. Select Set Inactive.

Note: A tax group that is associated with tax items or is associated with a location can not be marked inactive. Navigate to Settings / My Business / Locations. For more information on tax items, please see Tax Items.



5. On the tax group screen multiple tax groups can be made inactive

6. Check the tax group(s) in the list to set inactive. 

7. Select Inactive.

Note: To view all inactive tax groups refer to Filtering the Tax Group List in this article. 



8. To reactivative a tax group, click on the Filter icon.

9. Filter Options will open, check Include Inactive.

10. Select the group to reactivate.

11. Go to the Ellipsis on the right.

12. Click on Set Active.




Exporting Tax Group(s)


1. Navigate to Settings / Accounting / Tax Groups.

2. Check the tax group(s) to be exported. 

3. Select Export. 



4.  A csv file will be downloaded.
