Shared Elements Overview

Shared Elements are variables that can be recognized by both Parent and Child Assemblies within your system. They eliminate the need to create separate Elements in both the Parent and Child Assemblies, along with the extra step of mapping values between them. Examples of frequently used Shared Elements include inputs for Height, Width, and Sides. This article will guide you through the process of creating your own Shared Elements. For more information on Assemblies, please see Assembly Overview.

Side Panels

Clicking on any of the Shared Elements will bring up a Side Panel with information specific to that Shared Element. You can edit the information found here at any time.

Note: The Shared Elements side panels will have slightly different headings and information fields depending on which one you select. This example uses a number element type.

a. Details heading is where you would find basic information about the Element including a Label and Variable Name.

Note: The Variable name is used in pricing formulas. It must be unique and not include spaces.

b. Data explains how numbers will be used in machines.

c. The Default is the value is what will automatically populate in the field.

Note: This should almost always be left blank. This Shared Element will be available in every Assembly and within the Assembly is where you may define a default value or formula.

d. Use this ellipsis to access a menu to Export or Delete the Shared Element.

Note: Elements that are currently being used will have the Delete option greyed out.
