Dashboard vs Financial Monitor

On Home > Dashboard in Legacy (and the matching Dashboard area in Evo), you will see three tabs: Dashboard, Sales Monitor, and Financial Monitor. They are related, but they are not the same view.

Quick comparison

Dashboard tab A customizable layout of widgets (tiles) you add with + Widget. Each widget focuses on one slice of the business (goals, payments, estimates, status counts, and similar).
Financial Monitor tab A built-in monitor: a full-size live chart for the selected period. It is not built from widgets and is not rearranged with + Widget.
Sales Monitor tab The other built-in monitor tab, focused on sales monitoring for the period (also a full-size live view, not a widget board).

What the Dashboard tab is for

Use the Dashboard tab when you want a personalized mix of tiles. Common examples include Business Goals, Monthly Sales Goal Progress, Payment Summary, Salesperson New Estimate Totals, and status summaries. Each widget has its own filters and refresh settings. You can add, remove, and rearrange widgets to match how you work.

For setup steps, see How to Set Up Dashboards and Widgets and Widgets Overview.

What the Financial Monitor tab is for

Use Financial Monitor when you want one period-based financial pipeline view. Typical bars include open pipeline amounts such as WIP, Built, and Invoicing (often labeled OPEN), plus period activity such as Invoiced, Closed, ARs, Payments, and the budgeted Sales Goal for the selected range (often labeled PERIOD).

  • OPEN amounts reflect current open work in that status.
  • PERIOD amounts reflect activity inside the date range shown at the top of the monitor (for example This Month).

Use Refresh on the monitor when you need the latest values. Visibility of monitor tabs is controlled by administrator settings for monitors (who can view each monitor).

Why numbers can look different between the two tabs

Dashboard widgets and the Financial Monitor often answer related questions with different definitions:

  • A Business Goals Actual TD for a month is tied to goal tracking for that month. It can line up with Financial Monitor Invoiced (PERIOD) when both are looking at the same invoiced activity for that month, but other widgets may use different date filters or status rules.
  • Payment Summary on the Dashboard can show payments and refunds as separate lines for the widget date range. Financial Monitor Payments (PERIOD) is a single period metric on the monitor chart, so the amount may not match the widget's Payments line one-for-one when refunds or other payment adjustments are involved.
  • Monthly Sales Goal Progress breaks the current month into Completed / In Progress / Remaining (and optional Potential). That is a goal-progress breakdown, not the same bar chart as Financial Monitor.

When comparing figures, match the date range first, then confirm whether you are looking at a widget definition or a monitor PERIOD/OPEN bar.

Evo

In Evo, the same idea applies: the Dashboard tab holds widgets you add, while Sales Monitor and Financial Monitor are separate monitor tabs. Widget and monitor visibility is managed under Settings > My Business (Widgets and Monitors). During your transition to Evo, you can use either Legacy or Evo for these views.
