When you create an Estimate or Order, Payment Terms copy from the Company. You can change Payment Terms on that Estimate or Order. This article shows how to update Payment Terms from the details panel.

Important Information
- Changing Payment Terms on an Estimate or Order applies only to that record. It does not change Payment Terms on the Company. For more information on Company defaults, see Creating Companies.
- On an Order, the Balance Due date is calculated from Payment Terms. You cannot edit Balance Due by hand. For more information, see Balance Due Date on Orders.
- The values in the Payment Terms dropdown come from System Settings. To add or update those values, see Payment Terms Settings.
- The same field is available on an Estimate. The dialog is titled Estimate Details.
How to Change Payment Terms
This example uses an Order. To change Payment Terms on an Estimate, navigate to Sales / Estimates, open the Estimate, and follow the same steps in Estimate Details.
Navigate to Sales / Orders and open the Order.

1. Click the edit (pencil) icon in the details panel to open the Order Details dialog.

2. Select the Payment Terms you want to use.
3. Click Save.

Note: On an Order, the Balance Due date updates from the Payment Terms you save.

1. Does changing Payment Terms on an Estimate or Order change the Company?
Answer: No. The change applies only to that Estimate or Order. Payment Terms on the Company stay the same.
2. How do I change the Balance Due date on an Order?
Answer: Change Payment Terms on the Order, then save. Balance Due is calculated from Payment Terms and cannot be edited by hand. For more information, see Balance Due Date on Orders.
